Welcome to Wildlife Aid

Wildlife Aid, as seen on TV’s ‘Wildlife SOS’, is one of the UK’s largest wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and release centres. The charity, having been founded in 1980 by Simon Cowell MBE, is now the only remaining organisation of its kind in Surrey. Dealing with in excess of 20,000 wildlife incidents each year, the centre is open to receive wildlife casualties around the clock, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Wildlife Aid (apart from its annual Open Day) is NOT open to the public. This is due to the fact that all of the creatures in the hospital’s care are not only sick or injured, but WILD animals. For our patients to have the best possible chance at a successful release back into the wild, we must ensure that they do not become stressed or imprinted in any way, thus human contact must be kept to an absolute minimum.

However, there are very many ways of becoming more involved with the work of Wildlife Aid, all of which are featured on this site, along with fascinating features, articles, LIVE Cub-cams!! and much, much more…..

Simon's December Blog

OK, I’m back again, well nearly… I have the most severe ‘man flu’ – i.e. a slight cold! – I’m bunged up and feeling lousy. On top of which I’ve done absolutely nothing about Christmas – no cards, no prezzies.. zilch. Methinks I won’t be too popular with some come the yuletide morn! I reckon I can just about get away with not sending any cards by pointing out that it’s the environmentally responsible thing to do – but justifying the absence of presents to my nearest and dearest might just need a little more imagination!

Time for a Change

What a week! The ‘credit crunch’ has morphed into the ‘global economic crisis’ and the government has waved its magic wand and conjured up five hundred billion pounds to bail out the banks. Europe-wide the sums involved run into the trillions. If this isn’t ‘fiddling while Rome burns’ I don’t know what is.

Wildlife SOS - New Series on Animal Planet

Wildlife SOS‘Wildlife SOS’ is back!!  Catch it every weekday night at 8.30pm on Animal Planet from Monday 15th September.

Simon in FloridaThe new series is packed with exciting, heart wrenching, brand new wildlife rescues and sees Simon and the crew continue their globe trotting travels. A return to South Africa sees the team nervously await the results of some Tuberculosis tests - the outcome of which will decide the fate of two lion cubs, rescued from the canned hunting industry.

As well as many nail biting UK rescues, that even Sara cannot bear to watch, Simon jets off to the sunshine state of Florida to wrestle with alligators, swim with Manatees and stand face to face with a rather large black bear....

What Eggsactly Have We Found?

Grass snake eggsWhen a large stables at Effingham decided to move their muck heap at the end of July, they expected a few ‘nasty’ surprises. However, they still got more than they bargained for when they unearthed a nest of around 60 leathery, white eggs. Thinking they were probably snake eggs being incubated in the heat of the rotting manure, but not knowing which species, they did exactly the right thing: left the eggs alone and called Wildlife Aid to ask for advice.
